An unannounced visit the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake made to the Sri Lanka Army Band Complex at Maitland Place, Colombo 7 on Wednesday (12) morning, enabled him to see for himself how those Army "entertainers" are provided with their basic amenities such as billets, furniture, training places, sanitary needs, kitchen utensils, essential musical instruments, etc.
Together with the Centre Commandant, Sri Lanka Army General Services Corps (SLAGSC) under which the Army Band has been placed, the Commander personally inspected the entire complex, spoke with members of the Army Band and immediately instructed respective senior officers to pay special attention on certain aspects he observed as far below general standards.
He specifically wanted both billets and rehearsing facilities be immediately improved and further equipped with necessary accessories. His close inspection of the place with such a spirited interest is to result in a number of new initiatives shortly. Before he left, he mingled with Army personnel doing training and rehearsing and inquired into their needs and well-being.
Military Assistant, Senior Officers and Band Master were on hand during the unscheduled visit.
