Commander Pays Last Respect to Late Major General D.S.K Wijesooriya (Rtd)

Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, the Commander of the Army, this morning (21 Feb), paid his last respects to late Major General D.S.K Wijesooriya (Rtd) RWP RSP USP psc of the Sri Lanka Engineers at Jayaratne VIP Parlour.

During his visit, Commander of the Army interacted with the family members of the departed War Hero, extending his heartfelt condolences to them in their time of grief.

Major General D.S.K Wijesooriya (Rtd) RWP RSP USP psc passed away on Sunday (18 February 2024) due to a brief illness at the Colombo Army Hospital, Narahenpita. At the time of his passing, Major General D.S.K Wijesooriya (Rtd) RWP RSP USP psc was 79 years old, leaving behind a legacy of valour and service to the nation.

Major General D.S.K Wijesooriya (Rtd) RWP RSP USP psc enlisted in the Sri Lanka Army Regular Force with Intake 4 on 26 April 1971. Upon successful completion of basic military training at the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and posted to the Sri Lanka Engineers on 25 May 1972. Throughout his career, he held various appointments and steadily elevated to subsequent ranks, ultimately reaching the rank of Major General on 24 February 1999. He held the office of Director General General Staff at Army Headquarters at the time of his retirement.
