Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, Commander of the Army on Monday (29) during a formal visit to the Special Forces (SF) Regimental Headquarters in Naula, Dambulla opened the newly-built Corporals' Club building and laid the foundation-stone for erection of the proposed new SF Regimental Headquarters office complex.
On arrival at the venue, the Commander of the Army, Chief Guest for the day was greeted to a formal Guard Turnout before he was warmly welcomed to the SF, RHQ premises by Colonel Chandimal Peiris, Centre Commandant, SF. A few minutes later, he was invited to unveil a plaque and inaugurate the new Corporals' Club, a long-felt need to the SF Regimental Headquarters for a long time.
Flanked by several senior Officers, the visiting Commander of the Army, himself from the same Regiment had a close look inside the new building and inquired into the facilities, etc soon after its opening.
Planting of a sapling around the surroundings of the newly-opened Corporals’ Club and participation in a subsequent tea table with All Ranks were among other major highlights in the day’s itinerary at the venue.
The second most important segment of the day's agenda was the auspicious cornerstone-laying ceremony for the proposed new Headquarters complex in the premises. Lieutenant General Senanayake, determined to erect the new administrative complex for Special Forces by the side of the parade ground at Naula, amid Seth Pirith chanting of Maha Sangha placed the first cornerstone, together with several other Senior Officers.
During the latter part of the day’s programme, Lieutenant General Senanayake sat with Senior Officers and Commanding Officers for a special pow-wow and listened to them inquiring into their needs and other issues. At the same time, Senior Officers presented him with a blueprint of the planned constructions inside the Headquarters.
Similarly, he took time off to interact with Other Ranks and queried as regards different welfare projects now in progress while sharing refreshments with them.
SF Regiment council members, Senior Officers and Other Rankers were associated with the day's events.
