Commander Lauds Retiring Major General’s Notable Services

Major General D.M.P.P Dasanayake, Commander, Forward Maintenance Area - Central, prior to his retirement from the Army after a notable career of 34 years was invited this afternoon (11 Dec) to the office of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, together with his family members.

During cordial interactions, the Army Chief appreciated the services of the retiring Senior Officer in different capacities and recalled memories in the battlefield and also in the post-war scenario. The Commander of the Army also made inquiries about his future plans, prospects and wished him good luck with his future endeavours.

While sharing a few pleasantries with the retiring Major General D.M.P.P Dasanayake, the Commander of the Army did not forget to share a few words with his family members who were also present. He also did not fail to mention the support that the retiree’s family members have always extended to the outgoing Officer in the performance of his challenging roles.

Major General D.M.P.P Dasanayake also in turn thanked the Commander of the Army for his wishes and able guidance given to him while mentioning the encouragement he received during his tenure of service in the organization.

Towards the end of the interactions, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage awarded a special memento to the outgoing retiree as a symbol of appreciation and commendation along with a special gift to the family.

Here follows a brief profile of the retiring Senior Officer;

Major General D.M.P.P Dasanayake was enlisted in the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army as an Officer Cadet on 14 July 1989. Upon successful completion of military training at the Sri Lanka Military Academy - Diyatalawa in Intake 32, he was commissioned in the rank of Second Lieutenant and posted to the Sri Lanka Signal Corps (SLSC) on 19 January 1991. After being steadily elevated to subsequent Ranks in the course of the span of service in the Army, he was promoted to the rank of Major General on 04 February 2023.

He has been holding the office of the Commander, Forward Maintenance Area - Central at the time of his retirement. He also held the appointments of Platoon Commander of the School of Signals, Platoon Commander, 3 SLSC, Signal Officer of the 21 Infantry Brigade, Assistant Adjutant of 3 SLSC, Signal Officer of 7 Infantry Brigade and 21 Infantry Brigade, Officer Commanding of 6 SLSC, General Staff Officer 2 of Directorate of Operations at the Army Headquarters, International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and Human Rights (HR) Officer at Security Forces Headquarters - Wanni, Commanding Officer of 9 SLSC, General Staff Officer 1 (Electronic Warfare) of Office of the Chief Signal Officer at Army Headquarters, Commanding Officer of 8 SLSC, General Staff Officer 1 (Operations) of Office of the Chief of Defence Staff, General Staff Officer 1 (Coordinating) of 23 Infantry Division, Colonel (General Staff) of 22 Infantry Division, Assistant Military Liaison Officer of Ministry of Defence, Officiating Commander and Commander of 572 Infantry Brigade, Director of Directorate of Quality Assurance and Inspection at Army Headquarters and Director General of Directorate of Quality Assurance and Inspection, Army Headquarters.

He has followed many local and foreign courses during his military career, such as Junior Command Course, International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and Human Rights (HR) Advanced Refresher Course, Signals Young Officers’ Course - India, Junior Staff Course - Pakistan, Signals Company Commander Course - India, Senior Command Course - India, Man-portable Surveillance & Target Acquisition Radar Course - United Kingdom and United Nations Staff Officer Course - Australia.

The Senior Officer has also followed a number of higher educational and non-military courses, such as Diploma in Counselling at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute, Diploma in Professional Diplomacy & World Affairs at the Bandaranaike International Diplomatic Training Institute, Diploma in Senior Level Defence Management at the Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, India, International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and Human Rights (HR) Instructors Training Course at the University of Colombo and Textile Technology for the Garment Industry Course at the University of Moratuwa.
