Commander at Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya after Offerings Opens the Mammoth 'Dansela'

Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army, together with Mrs Janaki Liyanage, President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit, Major General M.G.W.W.W.M.C.B Wickramasinghe RWP RSP ndu psc, Adjutant General and a few Officers took time off to make offerings to the ancient Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya on the thrice blessed Vesak Day (5 May) where the Army Chief was also invited to inaugurate a mammoth rice and curry 'Dansela' (free eatery).

Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu had an audience with Ven (Prof) Kollupitiye Mahinda Sangharakkitha Nayaka Thero, Chief Incumbent at Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihara at first and received his blessings.

After making offerings to the relic chamber and other sacred places, he was invited by the monks and organizers, inclusive of Mr Dhammika Attygalle, Basnayake Nilame of the temple to inaugurate the free eatery by serving rice and curries to the devotees who had flocked there on the Vesak Day for religious observances. Mrs Janaki Liyanage also joined the Army Chief.

The Army Chief and Mrs Janaki Liyanage spent a few minutes with those devotees partaking of the meals and inquired about Vesak arrangements in the area and their well-being.
