Commander Inspects Welfare Project Nearing Completion in Hawa Eliya

Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva during his visit to Nuwara Eliya area on Thursday (2) took time off to inspect the progress of one more ongoing welfare project, i.e. construction of a 3-storied new holiday bungalow, meant for Young, Middle-Grade and Senior Officers in the general area of Hawa Eliya, Nuwara Eliya.

During his surprise visit to the location, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva had a close look at the welfare project and assessed the progress in relation to its architectural designs and finishing phases. He discussed related aspects with the architect, commanding officer of the project and others and contributed his views to the ongoing erection of those three buildings.

Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva maintained that Nuwara Eliya, being one of the most expensive holiday resorts would add decent holiday spirits to budding and other Officers at reasonable and affordable price after completion of the project within a few weeks. The project inaugurated in 2017 at an estimated cost of Rs 32 million is being constructed by 17 Corps of Engineer Services (CES) troops, commanded by Major Ruwan Punchihewa. The architect and the Commanding Officer 17 CES briefed the visiting Commander of the Army on the status quo.

Major General Keerthi Costa, Commander, Security Forces – Central, Major General Jaliya Senarathna, General Officer Commanding, 11 Division, Brigadier R Ganegoda, Director Engineer Service and Brigadier E.A.P Ediriweera, 112 Brigade Commander were among those other Senior Officers who were there with the visiting Army Chief at Hawa Eliya. bridgemedia | UK Trainer News & Releases
