Commander Inspects Army's First Eco-Friendly Luxury Holiday Resort

The Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya made an inspection tour to the ongoing construction of the first eco-friendly Army luxury holiday resort in Palatupana, Yala on Saturday (19).

The luxury resort with a number of three-storyed cottages will be made available to all members in the Army who served the country tirelessly in the fight against terrorism to enjoy their leisure time.

The resort is built under a concept mooted by the Commander of the Army. This new holiday resort with separate cottage-type single erections will have all luxurious facilities at a star class hotel such as gymnasiums, swimming pools, beach fronts, saunas, stadiums, etc that cater to the needs of any Army holiday-maker.

Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, determined to provide whatever possible holiday facilities to each and every soldier expects such projects would offer enormous economic benefits to Army users by cutting down more than half of their cost if incurred elsewhere.

The structure to come up using all local raw materials giving the maximum natural look and comfort is a pilot project of this nature in the Army, undertaken by the troops of Engineer Services Regiment and others in the Army.

Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya during the stopover at the construction site instructed the project workers to prioritize the conservation of the environment with least damage to its natural landscape, etc.

The Army has embarked on several such projects to erect more and more holiday resorts and upgrade the existing facilities for rest and recreation within the organization.

Before his visit to Yala, the Commander had a brief stop at the Weerawila Army field formation and discussed matters, related to renovation and improvement of the Holiday Bungalow in the compound.
