Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, Commander of the Army this morning (4) formally inaugurated the maiden cricket encounter (Big Match) between the Colombo Defence Services College (DSC) and the Homagama Mahinda Rajapaksa Vidyalaya teams at Colombo SSC grounds during a brief ceremony.
The friendly one-day match between cricketers of both colleges came about as a new conceptual notion of the DSC, now recognized as a national school by the Department of Education. The DSC provides education to sons and daughters of War Hero families and serving tri service personnel.
The day's Chief Guest, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake on arrival was received by principals of both schools and conducted to join the flag hoisting for symbolic inauguration in a procession. Afterwards, the Commander was introduced to cricketers of both teams, during which the Commander extended his best wishes by gifting both captains with bags containing cricket accessories as incentives.
The day's Chief Guest also did not forget to share a couple of thoughts with cricket coaches, teachers and all organizers who had assembled there for the ceremony before his exit from the location.
Major General Sunil Wanniarachchi (Rtd), Director, DSC and several other invitees, including officials of the Department of Education were associated with the inaugural ceremony of the match.
