Chief of Staff Addresses Troops at Security Forces Headquarters –West

Major General W.H.K.S. Peiris RWP RSP VSV USP ndu, the Chief of Staff, paid a visit to the Security Forces Headquarters –West in Panagoda on 19 March 2024.

Upon his arrival, a ceremonial Guard Turnout was presented by the troops of 6 Gemunu Watch to the Chief of Staff. Subsequently, Major General S.W.M. Fernando WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc, the Commander, Security Forces –West (SF-West), warmly welcomed the visiting Senior Officer.

Addressing the troops at the Army Gymnasium, the Chief of Staff emphasized crucial issues and tense social developments. He focused particularly on the role and tasks of the Army, highlighting the importance of maintaining relations with the Police and other supportive elements. He discussed ongoing security engagements, civil-military cooperation, decision-making processes, practical approaches, assistance to the affected public, maintenance of goodwill, and the importance of maintaining Army dignity and discipline.

Further, he commended the troops for their exemplary duties in the Colombo region and the Western Province. He acknowledged their efforts in promoting harmony and understanding with civilians in challenging situations.

Towards the end of the visit, the Commander, SF-West, presented a memento to the Chief of Staff as a token of appreciation for his visit and guidance.
