CES Troops Renovate Historical Municipal Building in Galle

Troops of the 10 (V) Corps of Engineer Service (CES) Regiment recently provided their expertise and labour to the renovation work of the historically valuable Galle Municipal Hall building that traces its history to 1800s.

The project was initiated on the directions of Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Army at the request of Mr Priyantha G. Sahabandu, Mayor of Galle. Financial patronage that cost about Rs 76 million for renovation work was provided by the Municipal Council.

The project with preparatory work commenced in the year 2020 and continued up until last Saturday (14) under the close supervision of three Commanding Officers (CO) who commanded the 10 (V) CES including the present CO, Major R.P.A Rohana.

The renovated building was warmed during a ceremony, held on Saturday (Jan 14) in the presence of Hon. Dinesh Gunawardena, Prime Minister of Sri Lanka as the Chief Guest. Colonel Commandant of the CES and Director of Engineering Services Brigadier Shantha Kumara, Senior Officers, Officers, and Other Ranks were present during the brief ceremony.
