Central Troops Uplift Life Quality Standards by Building More than 761 Homes

In what could be regarded as a heart-warming display of compassion and community service, the Security Force Headquarters - Central of the Sri Lanka Army has to-date after the year 2009 constructed a total of 761 houses for deserving families in the areas of responsibility, mustering the patronage of Non-Governmental Organizations, humanitarian agencies, South-based donors, overseas philanthropists and local community groups. Likewise, construction of 13 more such new houses for the poor is underway under the guidance and selfless efforts of respective Central Commanders, General Officers Commanding and Brigade Commanders serving under the Security Force HQ - Central.

This ambitious initiative in the Central area, that can be termed a transformative mission for betterment of lives, not only addresses the pressing issue of having a shelter above head but also demonstrates the Army's commitment to uplifting the standards of their livelihoods, many of who have been long suffering for lack of adequate and decent housing security.

The Security Force Headquarters-Central, raised on 14th March 2013 with the aim of assisting maintenance of security, conduct of military operations, nation-building roles and civil-military cooperation projects covering six districts, including Kandy, Matale, Nuwaraeliya, Moneragala, Badulla and Hambantota has been continuing to screen the housing needs of the homeless in those areas in consultation with Grama Seva officials before funds are searched for such constructions.

More significantly, multi-talented Army personnel with their technical expertise and manpower after 2009 succeeded in constructing 761 houses for the deserving on request by respective state officials. Army troops turn to donors or overseas expatriates and collect funds for such projects. Accordingly, 761 families after the year 2009 have moved into new houses, erected by Central troops with sponsorships channeled by the Army. As at present, construction of 13 more new houses for the poor is underway under the guidance and selfless efforts of the Central Commander, respective General Officers Commanding and Brigade Commanders serving under the Security Force HQ - Central.

The Sri Lanka Army's unwavering dedication to constructing houses for needy families in above six districts is a testament to the power of compassion, collaboration, and community-dedicated service. Through this initiative, lives are being rebuilt, futures are being reshaped, and the families are made dignified and worth living.
