Troops of the 2 (Volunteer) Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (SLEME) serving under the Security Force Headquarters - Central quickly responded and assisted the removal of a fuel bowser that slipped off the road and toppled near the Muslim College in Haputale around 6.30 am on Monday (11).
With the support of officials of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation who were there by then actively supported its safe removal within a few hours.
The emergency operation assisted by two Officers and more than three dozens of soldiers was completed in less than two hours and facilitated the resumption of normal traffic along the road where the bowser has toppled.
The quick intervention of the troops however saved a large quantity of oil left behind in the bowser as the troops were able to erect the vehicle back along the road after sealing the inlet of the vehicle.
