The 1 Corps HQ in Kilinochchi on Friday (14) welcomed General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff when he made a formal visit to the HQ.
On his arrival, Major General Chrishantha Ghanarathna, Commander of 1 Corps received him after a ceremonial drive-pass Guard Turnout, presented by troops of 3 Gajaba Regiment saluted him.
Beginning the day's itinerary, all formation Commanders of the 1 Corps and Staff Officers of the 1 Corps sat for group photographs with the Chief of Defence Staff before he joined planting a sapling inside the Headquarters premises.
He afterwards addressed the troops of the 1 Corps at 'Nelum Piyasa' in Kilinochchi and conveyed his gratitude to all the troops who supported various operations and the fight against COVID 19 pandemic. Subsequent to the address, mementoes were exchanged to make the occasion memorable. He also penned a couple of compliments and thoughts in the visitors' book, prior to his exit from the location.
Major General Udaya Herath, General Officer Commanding, 53 Division, Major General Vipula Ihalage, General Officer Commanding, 58 Division, senior staff officers of Headquarters 1 Corps, Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers, Staff Officers / officers and Other Ranks of the Headquarters and under command formations were present during the arrangement.
