CBRN First Responders Basic Course Concluded at Home of Sappers

The Chemical, Biological, Radiology and Nuclear Response (CBRN) Basic Course No-3 conducted for 14 days for 08 Officers and 49 Other Ranks at the Home of Sappers in Mattegoda concluded on 27 March 2023 during a brief ceremony.

Major General A.H.L.G Amarapala RWP RSP ndc psc, Officer Commanding of the Sri Lanka Army Engineer Division graced the closing ceremony as the chief guest and delivered the closing remarks before he gave away the certificates to the participants.

The aim of this course, comprised of theoretical, technical and practical sessions with CBRN Warfare Agents, Handling of Detection Equipment, Warning and Incidence Response Systems, Search and Rescue Drills, and CBRN Disaster Management , has been designed to enhance the knowledge, skills and competence in handling chemical, biological, radiation and nuclear first responder duties in a disaster or accidental fall-out and update combat readiness of the sapper troops for unconventional threats which can disturb the tranquility and peace of the country.

The course was conducted by 14 Chemical Biological Radiology and Nuclear Response Regiment in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Board (SLAEB), Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Regulatory Council (SLAERC), National Authority for Implementation of Chemical Weapon Convention (NACWC) and the Ministry of Health.

Second Lieutenant M.C Wimelawardena of Sri Lanka Engineers became the first in order of merits in the CBRN Basic Course No -3 and received appreciation.
