Buddhists with Others Organize Blessing Ceremony

Wanni-based members of the Maha Sangha chanted Seth Pirith and invoked blessings on Army Flags of all military formations under the Security Force Headquarters-Wanni (SFHQ-W) on Friday (19) during a ceremony, organized by the monks themselves at Sri Bodhidhakshinaramaya to coincide with the recent 69th Army Anniversary.

The Buddhist community, together with Hindu, Islam and Catholic communities spearheaded the event under the patronage of the Chief Incumbent of Sri Bodhidhakshinaramaya Temple, Ven. Siyambalagaswewe Anandhabidhana Thero. This is the first time that such a blessing ceremony was organized in line with the annual Flag Blessing ceremony of Sri Lanka Army. The ceremony signified the momentum of growing moves of reconciliation, and rapport that prevail between the civil community towards the Army.

A group of Officers and Senior Non-Commissioned Officers representing all military establishments under Security Force Headquarters (Wanni) attended the event. The religious ceremony commenced with the arrival of the Commander, Security Forces - Wanni, Major General Kumudu Perera.

Subsequently, Commander, SF-W donated books for Buddhist and Hindu students who participated in the event. Brigadier Administration and Quartering, Brigadier Ranjan Premalal, Commanders of 563 and 611 Brigades, several Senior Officers, Officers and a large number of Other Ranks, together with hundreds of devout Buddhists and other religious communities in Vavuniya area also participated in the event.
