Brigadier Wipula Ihalage, New GOC for 58 Division Assumes Duties

Brigadier Wipula Ihalage assumed duties as the 18th General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 58 Division during a simple ceremony, held at the 58 Divisional Headquarters in Puttalam on Friday (3).

At the entrance to the Headquarters, he was saluted in a formal Guard Turnout in accordance with military traditions. After a while, amidst ‘Seth Pirith’ chanting Brigadier Wipula Ihalage left his signature for an official document symbolizing the acceptance of his new duties as the 18th General Officer Commanding of the 58 Division.

Brigade Commander of the 581 Brigade, Colonel General Staff, Colonel Administration and Quartering of the 58 Division, Commanding Officers, Officers and Other Ranks took part in the event.

Brigadier Wipula Ihalage before this appointment was the Commandant at Marksman and Sniper Training School (MSTS).

Brigadier Wipula Ihalage of the Special Forces (SF) joined the Sri Lanka Army on 14 July 1989 and is famed as a battle-hardened officer.

He succeeded Major General Rohitha Aluvihare who has now been appointed as the Director General General Staff at the Office of Chief of Defence Staff.
