Brigadier M.M Kulatunge Passes Away

Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, together with the Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) and all ranks condoles on the demise of Brigadier M.M Kulatunge who passed away at the Army Hospital, Colombo on 16 September 2014.
   
Brigadier Mahindrasiri Mahindralal Kulatunge, having joined the SLAVF on 1st June 1987 was posted to the 2nd Volunteer Battalion of Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI).

At the time of his untimely death, he has been the Colonel of the Regiment of Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG).

Here follows the full text of the formal Part I Special Order, issued by the SLAVF Commandant on behalf of the Commander of the Army:
THE DEATH OF BRIGADIER M M KULATUNGE IS ANNOUNCED
WITH DEEPEST CONDOLENCE

The Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force records with profound grief the passing away of Brigadier Mahindrasiri Mahindralal Kulatunge on 16 September 2014 at Army Hospital Colombo whilst obtaining treatments.

Mahindrasiri Mahindralal Kulatunge was born on 12 October 1955 to parents, Mr R R G Kulatunge who was a Principal and Mrs Prema Kulatunge of Kahawatta, Pelmadulla in Rathnapura District.  

He joined the Sri Lanka Cadet Corps on 01 April 1983 and was absorbed to the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force on 01 June 1987 and posted to the Second Volunteer Battalion of Sri Lanka Light Infantry. Being an Officer of Sri Lanka Light Infantry, he had the privilege of holding the appointments such as Adjutant from 1994 to 1997, Second in Command in 1997 and the Commanding Officer from 1997 to 2006 of the Second Volunteer Battalion of Sri Lanka Light Infantry.

Subsequently, he held the appointments of Colonel Coordinating Officer at Area Headquarters (Mannar) from 2006 to 2007, Colonel Coordinating Officer  at Security Force Headquarters (Jaffna) in 2007,  Colonel  Administration at Headquarters of  the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force from 2007 to 2010, Colonel  Coordinating Officer at Security Force Headquarters (Wanni) from 2010 to 2012,  Brigadier Administration at Headquarters of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force in 2012 and Colonel  of the Regiment of Sri Lanka National Guard  from 2012 to 2014.
 
In recognition of his efficiency, loyalty and dedicated service, Brigadier Kulatunge was decorated with the following medals during his long and distinguished military career:

a.    East Humanitarian Operations Medal
b.    North  Humanitarian Operations Medal
c.    Purna Bhumi Padakkama.
d.    North and East Operations Medal
e.    Riviresa Campaign service Medal
f.    50th   Independence Anniversary Medal
g.    The Republic of Sri Lanka Army 50th  Anniversary Medal
h.    Sri Lanka Armed Services Long Service  Medal

He leaves behind his beloved wife Mrs Jinani Kulatunge and the loving son Akila and daughter Onila.

The demise of Brigadier M M Kulatunge, a thorough gentleman is an irreparable loss not only to Mrs Jinani Kulatunge, his son Akila and daughter Onila, but also to all of his relations, friends and his contemporaries in the armed services.

The Commander of the Army, the Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force and all ranks hereby extend the most heart-felt condolence to all members of the family of Brigadier M M Kulatunge.

The funeral of Brigadier M M Kulatunge takes place with full military honours befitting to the rank at General Cemetery, Borella at 1630 hrs on 18 September 2014.

He is ever remembered by all of us from sunrise to sunset as a patriotic son of Mother Lanka.
