243 Infantry Brigade troops of the 24 Infantry Division under the Security Force HQ - East on account of the International Children’s Day arranged a colourful celebration for children in the Batticaloa town area, on Sunday (1 October) at the Batticaloa lighthouse premises.
During the event, 150 children representing all ethnicities and religions took part in games and various entertaining events. In addition, 11 (V) Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) troops staged a musical programme and the event provided snacks, a delicious lunch and each of them a gift parcel towards the end of the celebration.
Mr Hemakumara Gunasekara and Mrs Thilini Withanage sponsored the event with Rs 150,000.00 for its success.
The event was arranged under the conceptual guidance of Major General M.K.U.P Gunaratne RSP ndu psc IG, Commander, Security Forces - East and Major General W Chandrasiri RSP USP psc, General Officer Commanding, 24 Infantry Division.
Brigadier A.M.C Kumarasinghe, Commander, 243 Infantry Brigade and Commanding Officer, 11 (V) SLSR made necessary arrangements. The Commander, Security Forces - East attended the event as the Chief Guest with the General Officer Commanding, 24 Infantry Division, Commander, 243 Infantry Brigade, Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks and Government Officials in the area.
