Army Women’s Corps Marks Their 20th Anniversary

Members of the Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (SLAWC) on Saturday (18) in a simple ceremony, held at 4 (V) SLAWC Battalion Headquarters, Medawachchiya celebrated its 20th anniversary.

The day’s programme kicked off after Brigadier Dilrukshi Munasinghe, Colonel Commandant, SLAWC on arrival received a Guard Turnout, presented by SLAWC troops at the entrance after she was warmly welcomed by the Centre Commandant, SLAWC.

A few minutes later, Colonel Commandant was invited to plant a sapling as a token of memory of her visit to the Battalion Headquarters.

Afterwards, the Colonel Commandant, SLAWC, Brigadier Munasinghe addressed a gathering around 500 SLAWC troops, including Commanding Officers, Second in Commands and senior SLAWC Officers.

During the same ceremony, certificates were also awarded to the achievers who have performed in different capacities as appreciative gestures.

Then, the Colonel Commandant, Centre Commandant, Commanding Officers together with Senior SLAWC Officers met family members of the SLAWC at a cordial meeting at Maithripala Senanayake Central College, Medawachchiya.

An All Rank lunch was served at the 4 (V) SLAWC camp premises afterwards.

A musical show in the same evening (18) culminated the day’s itinerary.

The 20th anniversary celebrations began on Friday (17) at the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhiya, Anuradhapura giving prominence to Buddhist religious rites and rituals.
