Army Women to Honour Their Fallen Heroines

Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (SLAWC) who had also contributed to the culmination of the ruthless LTTE terrorism before May 2009 added memories to the sacrifices of their 25 female comrades by inaugurating the work for construction of a war monument at the SLAWC Regimental HQ premises on Thursday (6 July).

Major General U.D Wijesekera RWP RSP USP rcds psc, Colonel Commandant of SLAWC and Commander Security Forces - East at the invitation of the SLAWC Centre Commandant cut the first sod of soil and laid the cornerstone for construction of the monument amid religious rites and rituals.

Centre Commandant, all Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks of the SLAWC Regimental Centre along with the 1 SLAWC Commanding Officer participated in this event.

Meanwhile, soon after the brief foundation-stone laying ceremony, the SLAWC Colonel Commandant Major General U.D Wijesekera RWP RSP USP rcds psc had a formal discussion with Senior Officers on the progress of administrative matters and other relevant issues of the SLAWC.
