Army women’s 7s rugby team emerged champions in the Inter–club women’s 7s Rugby championship finals that took place on Sunday (4) at Havelock Park, Colombo.
Ten teams competed in the tournament and all signs from the beginning of the finals were that Army players were taking the lead. In the 1st leg, Army team beat Navy, 7 points to 5.
The second leg will take place on 25 June 2017.
Ten teams were divided into four groups with two top teams of the group advancing to the cup quarter finals and two teams with lowest marks moving towards the semi-finals.
Private Ayesha Perera of the Sri Lanka Army was adjudged the Player of the Tournament.
