Army Woman Rugby Player Qualifies for Training in Australia

The Sri Lanka Army women's rugby team emerged unbeaten champions in the Rugby 7s tournament organized by the Melbourne Rebels and Rugby Victoria Club of Australia on Tuesday (29 August) at CR & FC grounds in Colombo.

Four leading Rugby teams of Sri Lanka, including the Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Navy, Sri Lanka Air Force and CR & FC vied in the tournament.

The intent of the tournament was to select the best two ruggerites from Sri Lanka for award of scholarships for training and facilitate both of them to play for the Melbourne Rebels Club in Australia for a period of six months.

The Captain of the Sri Lanka Army Rugby team Lance Corporal D.C.T Liyanage, the leading try scorer of the tournament qualified to receive a scholarship to proceed for training in Australia for a period of six months.

Brigadier P.A.M Peiris RSP USP psc, Director Sports and members of the Army rugby committee were there to watch the game and extend their best wishes.
