Army Winners in ‘Asian Games’ Felicitated Giving Promotions

Congratulations and best wishes, coupled with warm greetings reverberated around the Army HQ this morning (11 Oct) when Army achievers in the recent ‘19th Asian Games’ in Hangzhou, China were conducted to the HQ in a procession to receive appreciation and promotions from the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu.

6 Army athletes and 4 Army cricketers out of the 12 member team won medals in Javelin Throw, 400 m x 4 Relay (Men’s and Women’s) and Sri Lankan Women’s Cricket team in the ‘Asian Games’ bringing reputation to the organization and the country at large.

Those winners on the recommendation of the Commander of the Army were promoted to their next respective ranks before they were invited to the Army HQ.

Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage during the interactions with those achievers spoke high of their achievements as well as exciting performances in this international event and further assured them of continued assistance for improvement of their athletic talents.

Warrant Officer II H.K.K Kumarage of Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, Staff Sergeant S.A Darshana of Sri Lanka Artillery, Staff Sergeant H.L.N.D Lekamge of Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps, Staff Sergeant Nadeesha Ramanayake of Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps, Sergeant R.M.R.N Rajakaruna of Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, Bombardier G.D.K.K Niku of Sri Lanka Artillery, Lance Bombardier P.M.P.L Kodikara of Sri Lanka Artillery and Craftsmen A.V.D Dinuka Deshan of Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers participated in athletic events and Sergeant D.M.S.M Kumari of Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps, Sergeant N.N.D Silva of Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps, Sergeant W.A.K Kulasuriya of Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps, Lance Corporal M.A.A Sanjiwani of the Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps represented the Women’s National Cricket team.

Brigadier P.A.M Peiris RSP USP psc, Director, Sports was also associated with the felicitation ceremony at the Army HQ.
