Army Weightlifters Carry Championship in National Event

The Weightlifting National Championship - 2022, held at Polonnaruwa, Gallella National Sports complex during 10 - 13 November, enabled Army weightlifters to clinch the championship, defeating counterparts from 11 island-wide sports clubs, including Navy and Air Force teams.

Sri Lanka Army men’s team scoring 34 points won the overall championship while the Sri Lanka Army women’s team secured the runner-up slot in the championship tournament.

Army weightlifters won 4 Gold Medals, 9 Silver Medals and 4 Bronze Medals in total to qualify for the Championship. Sergeant Y.D.I Kumara of 2 Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps was adjudged the Best Competitor in the event.

Major General Chanaka Meththananda, Chairman, Sri Lanka Army Bodybuilding Weightlifting & Power Lifting Committee, inspired the entire team throughout their participation. He was also a witness to the finals at Polonnaruwa.
