Army Weightlifter in Birmingham Shines with Bronze Medal

The Army Weightlifter, Corporal Y.D.I Kumara of 2 (V) Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps in the ongoing ‘Commonwealth Games 2022’ in Birmingham - United Kingdom added history and won the Bronze Medal in the 55 kg weight lifting category on Saturday (30).

The ‘Commonwealth Games 2022’ will continue with competitors of all Commonwealth countries until 8 August with the participation of Sri Lankan Army athletes, the majority representing Sri Lanka.

37 Sri Lanka Army athletes and players including women cricketers are participating in the ‘Commonwealth Games - 2022’ and the group, composed of competitors in swimming, Judo, basketball, beach volleyball, cricket (Women), Rugby, Boxing, Athletics, Badminton and para wrestling and discus-throwing events left for England on 25 July.

The Army participation assumes greater significance this time since the entire National Boxing Team is represented solely by Army Boxers.
