Lance Corporal Y.D.I Kumara of Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps (SLAGSC) and Sergeant J.A.C Lakmal of the Commando Regiment were among weight-lifters who won Gold and Silver medals respectively in the recent 13th South Asian Games - 2019 (SAG), held in Kathmandu, Nepal.
In the 55 kg weight category, Lance Corporal Y.D.I Kumara beating his counterparts from more than 7 countries carried away the Gold Medal in the SAG and emerged the champion.
Sergeant J.A.C Lakmal vying in the 67 kg weight category won the Silver medal in weight lifting. Pakistan’s weight-lifter however won the Gold Medal.
Both of them on return to the island were warmly welcomed by Major D.M.M Subasinghe, Secretary to Army Weight-Lifting Committee, Captain W.I.N De Silva, Chief Coach, family members and his workmates in the Army.
