Army Troops Sweep into Flood Relief Roles

Torrential and ravaging rains that prevail across the country in the past 48 hours ending Wednesday (1) afternoon have caused damages to road networks, homes and cultivations, prompting Army troops to engage in rescue and relief operations in cooperation with state agencies, Police and Disaster Management Centre officials.

Accordingly, Engineer troops in 12 Sri Lanka Enginners responding to needs of the people in inundated areas facilitated their safe passage and evacuated GCE (O/L) candidates trapped in swelling flood waters and specific locations.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) troops in Biyagama area provided immediate relief to about 50 families in Yatawatta, Madiya and Gemunu Mawatha areas after they were affected due to minor floods. They immediately cleared tree branches that have fallen across roads in the same area on the instructions of the Commanding Officer, 8 SLLI of the 141 Brigade of the 14 Division under the Security Force HQ - West.
