Army Troops Restore Traffic Clearing Roads

Strong and gushing winds that swept across largely the South Western coastal belt during wee hours on Saturday (8) causing disruptions to traffic and public places prompted troops of the Security Force Headquarters-West (SFHQ-West) to immediately act and clear those hurdles within a couple of hours before dawn.

SFHQ-West troops serving 14 Division Headquarters rushed to the intersection at Maradana Technical Collage junction and several main roads in Colombo suburbs and cleared the areas by removing fallen tree branches and other paraphernalia with the assistance of a few machinery.

Traffic on those main roads were restored and people around those affected areas were alerted as winds continued to blow strongly.

Similarly, troops serving Avissawella, Balapitiya, Moratuwa, Panadura, Maharagama, Dehiwala and suburbs cleared piles of fallen tree trunks and branches restoring normal services. In some instances, electricity poles and lines that had been damaged were restored in cooperation with electric engineers in the civil sectors.
