Army Troops Douse Fire at Homagama

The sudden fire broke out in a line of shops at Homagama town at around 1.50 pm on Monday (21) was brought under control within a few hours by the 10 (V) Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) troops of the 142 Brigade under the 14 Division of the Security Force Headquarters – West (SFHQ-West).

A fire has erupted at the Institute of Esoft building in the heart of Homagama town and has begun almost to catch other adjacent shops.

In response to a request made by the Homagama Police station to the troops for help, troops of the 10 (V) SLNG, together with fire fighters and the Police managed to control the spreading fire despite strong winds that prevailed at that time.

Several fire fighting vehicles were also dispatched to the location by the Army and the Fire Brigade. Timely action prevented the spread of fire to shops in the town.

On the directions of Brigadier Samantha De Silva, 142 Brigade Commander, Major Janaka Kalansooriya, Commanding Officer, 10 (V) SLNG along with his troops actively contributed to douse the fire.
