A bushfire that broke out in the forest close to the Victoria Dam in Teldeniya area in Kandy was brought under control by 2 Sri Lanka Rifle Corps (SLRC) troops of 111 Brigade under the Security Force Headquarters - Central (SFHQ-C) on Monday (22) around 3.00 a.m.
A group of more than 36 Army personnel including 1 officer and 35 other ranks of the 2 SLRC soon after the emergency was brought to their notice rushed to the scene on the directions of the General Officer Commanding (GOC) in 11 Division who got in touch with the Commander, Security Forces – Central (SF-C).
Within a few hours, the troops managed to douse the fire and brought the situation under control with the support of some civilians who volunteered to assist.
