Army Shooters Champion at Defence Services Shooting Tournament

Sri Lanka Army shooters registered a convincing victory during the three-day (Jan 11-13) long Defence Services Shooting Tournament, organized by Army Small Arms Association at Diyatalawa firing range.

Competed by hundreds of Army, Navy and Air Force shooters and separate tri-service groups, the Army recorded the overall Championship, securing all first three places.

Corporal M.M.N Koswatta, Captain K.L.D.A Saranga and Corporal Abeywardana scored the highest and secured 1st, 2nd and 3rd places to be qualified for the overall championship.

Similarly, Army ‘A’ team and Army ‘B’ team won the 1st and 2nd places in the Overall Team Championship, pushing Sri Lanka Air Force ‘A’ team to the 3rd place.

Adding more feathers, Sri Lanka Army woman shooters won both Overall Championship and the Team Championship in the tournament in an impressive manner.

Private A.D Lakmali and Staff Sergeant G.S.K De Silva of Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps secured 1st and 3rd places respectively in the Overall Championship but Sri Lanka Army Women’s ‘A’ team and Sri Lanka Army Women’s ‘B’ team bagged 1st and 3rd places respectively in the Team Championship.

All those shooters, trained by Army Small Arms Association, presided by Brigadier N.D.S.P Niunhella have so far in a number of island-wide shooting events, emerged unbeaten.  
 
Award of trophies and shields took place at Diyatalawa firing range, attended by a large gathering of senior officers and shooting fans in the Army.
