Army SFHQs Plant Thousands of Saplings Across Their Formations

Sri Lanka Army’s Security Force Headquarters (SFHQs) on the directions of the Commander of the Army and with the coordination of Directorate of Agriculture and Livestock of the Army, threw their full weight behind the national tree planting drive, launched to coincide with the 2nd anniversary of HE the President Maithripala Sirisena in office and planted more than 13,200 tree saplings on Wednesday (4).

Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W) troops under the programme planted a total of 2800 Mee saplings inside the SFHQ-W premises with the participation of Brigadier General Staff, senior officers, officers and other ranks on the instructions of the Commander, Security Forces - Wanni.

Likewise, troops of the Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) launched a tree planting programme under the guidance of the Commander, Security Forces - Kilinochchi on the same day (4). Under the programme, 2100 saplings of Mango, Ehela, Margosa, Teak and Palmyrah were distributed among all formations under command to the SFHQ-KLN.

Brigadier R.M.P.J Rathnayake, Brigadier General Staff, SFHQ-KLN senior officers, officers and other ranks attended the programme at the SFHQ-KLN premises while other senior officers and other rankers in respective Divisions, Brigades and Units planted those saplings around the same time on Wednesday (4).

Security Force Headquarters-Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT) troops meanwhile arranged a similar tree planting drive at the SFHQ-MLT premises and inside all other formations under command to the SFHQ-MLT. More than 100 saplings were planted inside the SFHQ-MLT premises, in addition to hundreds of plants given to the formations.

Brigadier B.P.S De Silva, Brigadier General Staff attended the tree planting programme representing the Commander, Security Forces - Mullaittivu at the SFHQ-MLT premises. Senior officers, officers and other ranks attended the day’s event.

Meanwhile, Commander, Security Force Headquarters - West (SFHQ-West) contributed to the drive by planting the first mango sapling at the SFHQ-West premises on the same day (4). To be in line with the inauguration, all Regimental Headquarters inside the Panagoda Army Cantonment and all other formations under command to the SFHQ-West joined this tree planting programme by planting approximately 200 trees.

In the meantime, Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E) added their share to the programme by planting 5600 saplings at the SFHQ-E and in all other formations under command to the SFHQ-E. The inaugural planting ceremony took place at the Siddhapura farm in Welikanda area with the participation of Brigadier Athula Hennadige, representing the Commander, Security Forces - East.

In the meantime, a ceremony, headed by Major General P.U.S Vithanage, Commander, Security Forces - Central kicked off the tree planting drive during a simple ceremony at the 11 Division Headquarters. A total of 2400 saplings were planted during the programme covering Diyatalawa, Menikkanda, Bingethenna areas and respective areas under command to the Security Force Headquarters - Central.
