Army Sepak Takraw Players Win Four Championships

The 16th National Sepak Takraw Championship, held under 6 event categories at the Kandy Municipal Council ground during 22- 23 October gave 4 championships to Army competitors. Male Hoops, female Regu, Female Hoop and Female Double championships were accordingly won by the Army female (A team) and the Army male (A team) won the title of runners-up. Army Female (B team) similarly won the Hoop, Regu and Double runners-up slots respectively. Out of all 6 categories, Army Players snatched 4 championships during the tournament.

The team under the instructions of Brigadier Upul Kodithuwakku, Chairman, Army Sepak Takraw Committee underwent training before they attended the Championship tournament.

Sepak Takraw is a foot volleyball game where players touch as well as handle the ball using only their feet, knee, chest and head. The rules and regulations of the game are very much similar to that of volleyball. A very popular game around Southeast Asia, the game is played using a rattan or synthetic ball. Since 1990, Sepak Takraw is also included in the Asian Games. Following players achieved as best players during the Championship:

Best Tekong Player (Female) - Private N Madushani
