130 civilians residing in Palampiddi area in Mannar District with economic difficulties were the recipients of Army-initiated relief dry ration packs with sponsorship, provided jointly by Talagala Sri Siddhartha Foundation of Ven Talagala Sumanaratana Thero and Tan Ngak Buay & Kee Meng Lang Foundation Limited of Singapore on Friday (19) during arrangements that took place at the Thachchanamaramadhu Public Hall in Thachchanamaramadhu.
At the request of Major General Prasad Edirisinghe, the General Officer Commanding of 65 Division, the project was organized under the close supervision of Brigadier Sanjeewa Wanasekera, 652 Brigade Commander and Brigadier Namal Serasinghe, 653 Brigade Commander, Brigade troops and 24 Gajaba Regiment troops.
Major General Prasad Edirisinghe, General Officer Commanding, 65 Division attended the distribution, together with representatives of the donors where selected families in those areas were each given a parcel of 5 kg of rice, 1 kg of dhal, 1 kg of sugar, 1 kg of wheat flour,1 canned fish tin and a soya meat packet to the value of Rs 7500.
The same South-based Foundation has been engaged in providing those relief packs to poor civilians across the country with the coordination done by Army troops at respective areas of selection.
Brigade Commanders of 653 and 652 Brigades, Civil Coordination Officer, Commanding Officers, Senior Officers and Other Ranks, and several others with representatives of donors were present at the time of the distribution.
