Army Players Sweep All Wins in 17th Sri Lanka Tug of War Championship

The 17th Sri Lanka Tug of War Championship, organized by the Sri Lanka Tug of War Federation that got underway on Sunday (Dec 11) at the Sports Ministry Grounds in Torrington, Colombo enabled Army players to dominate the tournament and win the Championship titles in all the categories.

Major General Sujeewa Senarath Yapa, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Army Tug of War Committee and Commandant of the Sri Lanka Volunteer Force wanted 6 capable teams from the Army, be made eligible to compete in the tournament.

Brigadier Sampath Fernando coordinated the Army Men’s tug of war team while Colonel Dammika Thilakarathne, coordinated the participation of the Army Women’s team for tug of war. A large crowd of Army and civil spectators witnessed the tournament that ran throughout the day.

Army teams secured all the following titles:

 Under 23 Women (weight Class - 500 kg) - Champions

 Under 23 Men (weight Class - 600 kg) - Champions

 Weight Class 640kg Men - Champions

 Weight Class 560kg Women - Champions

 Open Women - Champions

 Open Men - Champions
