A total of 64 budding badminton players in four leading boys’ and girls’ schools in Kilinochchi voluntarily took part in a badminton tournament, organized by the Security Force Headquarters - Mullaittivu on Thursday (18).
The tournament, competed by girls and boys under 20 years of age, belonging to Kilinochchi Central College, Kilinochchi Hindu Maha Vidyalaya and Kilinochchi St Theresa Vidyalaya got underway in the indoor stadium at Northern Province sports complex.
Organized by the 57 Division Headquarters and the 571 Brigade HQ, the tournament’s awarding ceremony took place in the presence of Major General Sanjaya Wanasinghe, Commander, Security Forces - Mullaittivu as the Chief Guest who was also the brainchild behind holding this tournament which was meant to improve badminton skills among school teenagers in Kilinochchi.
Regional Education Officers, Messrs B Wasudevan and M Kantha Selvam, Kilinochchi Sports Officer, Mr Anura Kanthan, General Officer Commanding, 57 Division, 571 Brigade Commander, Brigade Commanders, senior Officers of SF-MLT, Senior Officers from 57 Division and Commanding Officers attended the awarding ceremony.
