Army Organized Grade 5 Scholarship Seminar Draws Many Mannar Students

HUNDREDS of Grade 5 students in Mannar schools under 215 Brigade recently had the rare chance of attending two preparatory Grade 5 Scholarship Seminars, organized by Mannar Security Forces Area Headquarters in coordination with the Tharunyayata Hetak organization and provincial education authorities.

The seminars at Adampan Maha Vidyalaya and Mannar Siththi Vinayagar Maha Vidyalaya were attended by Tamil and Sinhala speaking educationists and other lecturers who had offered their assistance for the benefit of those remote-area based children in Mannar free of charge.

Security Forces Headquarters, Wanni, commanded by Major General G.D.H.K Gunerathne, in close liaison with the Tharunyayata Hetak regional office for the north, has given instructions to the Mannar Area Headquarters to go ahead with the planned seminars with the participation of those educationists and students. At the beginning of both seminars, a special Grade 5 publication that consists of questions and answers was gifted to all the participants, sitting the examination in 2010.

Zonal Education Director Mr Rowell, Tharunyayata Hetak coordinators of the education sector Messrs Pradeep Pushpakumara and Deshapriya, Mannar Area Headquarters Commander Brigadier M.A.M Dias, 215 Brigade Commander Colonel H.L.V.M Liyanage, Civil Affaires Coordinating Officers and several other senior officials attended the inaugural ceremonies of the seminars.

A number of schools in the area had facilitated students to attend the seminar with the help of Army transport, teachers and parents. Mr K. Shanmugalingam, Principal at Sitthi Vinayagar Maha Vidyalaya appreciated the Army assistance for the successful completion of the seminars.
