Army Mobile Vaccination Fleet Begins in Hill Country

The Army's Mobile COVID-19 Vaccination Fleet that prioritizes the vaccination of the elderly, sick, handicapped and feeble sections in society expanded its national drive further and started off in the Central Province this morning (23) after launching the project from the Kandy Army Hospital premises.

The national drive, fully supported by the Army as per directions of the Head, National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, General Shavendra Silva and under supervision of the Major General Vikum Liyanage, Commander, Security Forces - Central got to a start in the presence of the General Officer Commanding, 11 Division, Major General Kithsiri Liyanage, Coordinator for COVID Prevention Project in Kandy.

The deployment of this fleet of three mobile vaccination vehicles plus two ambulances on standby would administer the vaccine against COVID-19 visiting doorsteps of applicants only after those who need this mobile service register themselves with respective Assistant Divisional Secretariats, Grama Seva officials, health workers and the District Secretariat or by phoning the 11 Division HQ at Pallekele for necessary coordination.

Major General Kithsiri Liyanage inspected the new mobile vaccination fleet in the compound and shared a few thoughts with the medical staff, ready to begin the service.

Those vehicles, manned with nurses, medical assistants and data entry operators will accordingly be stationed in designated areas as recommended by state administrative authorities. The standby ambulance with a Medical Officer will monitor the process closely throughout its operations and would extend its service in the event of any emergency in a recipient of the jab.

The Army mobile fleet at present is continuing its national drive in Western Province, Eastern Province and Jaffna, too.

Meanwhile, Army medical troops at the Army Base Hospital Diyatalawa along with troops of 111,112,121 and 122 Brigades carried out mobile vaccination programmes for sick, handicapped, feeble and elderly people above 60 years of age on Monday (23) in Nuwara Eliya, Matale, Kandy, Badulla, Monaragala and Hambanthota MOH areas.

On the directions of Major General Vikum Liyanage, Commander Security Forces – Central, troops visited their door steps and conducted the vaccination project after proper registration process in coordination with relevant state officials.

The vaccination programme was supervised by respective Commanders of 111, 112, 121 and 122 Brigades under the guidance of respective General Officers Commanding of the 11 & 12 Divisions.
