Army Inter-Regiment Cricket Tournament Begins

Several matches of the ongoing Inter-Regiment Cricket Tournament (B group) took place at Panagoda Sri Lanka Artillery (SLA) Regiment Headquarters ground and Mattegoda Sri Lanka Engineers (SLE) Regiment Headquarters ground with the tournament’s inaugural matches played during June 12 - 13.

The Army Inter Regiment ‘B’ Group Cricket Tournament, organized by the Army Cricket Committee, chaired by Major General Priyantha Jayasundara is currently underway at island-wide Army formations before the final rounds take place in July.

Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps (SLAOC) cricket team on Monday (12) defeated their rivals, cricketers of the SLE by 7 runs scoring 200 runs in total. Similarly, cricketers of the Sri Lanka Signal Corps (SLSC) lost the match to their rivals, Sri Lanka Army Service Corps (SLASC) ‘B’ team cricketers, the following day (13). The winners scored 159 runs in 6 wickets.

However, Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps (SLAGSC) during the third round, won the match by 58 runs scoring 253 against their rivals, Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC) cricketers.

The Army Cricket Committee has been instrumental in promoting cricket among Army personnel providing them with all assistance for training.
