Army Initiative Provides New House for Widow & Three Daughters in Jaffna

Troops of the Security Forces -Jaffna once again extended their technical, engineering and manpower built a new house for one more underprivileged family in Uduththurai, Kaddaikadu after their miserable plight was brought to the notice of Major General Chandana Wijayasundara, Commander Security Force-Jaffna.

The newly-built house to Mrs Vijayakanthan Vasanthakumari, a widowed mother with her three daughters, was sponsored by Mr Vish Nadaraja, a philanthropist in Jaffna at the invitation of the Security Force HQ-Jaffna (SFHQ-J). This new house, built under the close supervision of the General Officer Commanding of the 55 Division, Major General Prasanna Gunaratne and his troops was ceremonially warmed by Major General Chandana Wijayasundara, Commander Security Forces - Jaffna on Tuesday (27) during a simple ceremony, held in keeping with Hindu religious traditions.

Troops of the 12 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) under the supervision of Major W.T.S Nayanajeewa, Commanding Officer of 12 VIR, provided much-required manpower and technical expertise for the construction work under the guidance of the Commander 553 Brigade, Brigadier Rohan Jayakody.

After unveiling a plaque to that effect, the day's Chief Guest, Jaffna Commander handed over the keys of the new house to the beneficiaries after religious blessings were over in the presence of the donor of funds for the worthy cause. Simultaneously, the Jaffna Commander gifted household items and a pack of dry rations to the family as tokens of goodwill. In addition, school students in the family and those who were present at the ceremony from nearby areas were also awarded educational accessories and a stock of essential reading and exercise books as incentives for studies.

General Officer Commanding of the 55 Division, Major General Prasanna Gunaratne, Brigadier General Staff at the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna, Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officer Naval Base Vetthilaikeny, Senior Officers, Government Officials, beneficiaries and their family members, neighbours and troops
