Disciplined Army SC registered their third win for the season when they completely outclassed the CH & FC outfit by 40 points (5 goals and a try) to 14 (2 goals) in an one sided encounter played at Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium yesterday.
Army drew first blood on the 7th minute when their reliable flanker Wasantha Costa scored. Upali Wickramasinghe added the extra points.
Under strength CH & FC levelled the scores when Kanishka Saranga scored a terrific try with only 22 minutes into the game. Dharshana Lochana converted the try. Army SC showed pure dominance in the set pieces and breakdowns as CH & FC could not manage to hold the Army power when their expatriate Lalai Jalebule barged over the line to take the lead with only 10 minutes left of the first half. Upali Wickramasinghe made no mistake with the conversion.
CH & FC struggled to leave their half as Army piled on pressure and Army scored their third try for the evening when Rasika Abeynayake chased down a smothered kick to help Army increase the lead. Conversion was missed by Upali Wickramasinghe.
Army SC secured the bonus point going into the half time break when Army wing three quarter Manoj Bandara intercepted a pass and sprinted away to score. Upali Wickramasinghe converted the try to make the score line 26-07.
After the lemons, both teams tried to slow down the pace of the game and a load of infringements saw no points being scored till the 63rd minute when Krishanth Pushpakumar of Army SC dazzled through the right flank and score near the right corner flag to end any hopes of CH & FC coming back into the game. Upali Wickramasinghe continued his good game by converting the try. CH & FC made some respite in the 70th minute when replacement flanker Danuka Wijethilake scored under the posts from a five meter scrum deep inside Army territory. Pola Converted but Army led 33-14.
