Army Engineers Complete School Playground & Facility Construction Projects

Responding to a directive given by HE the President, technically-qualified troops of the Sri Lanka Engineers (SLE) Regiment on the instructions of General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, have completed renovation or preparation of 24 playgrounds across island-wide schools in rural areas under the guidance of the Chief Field Engineer, Major General Nihal Amerasekara and SLE Brigade Commander.

The 24 constructions completed and handed over to respective authorities include the school play grounds at Kumarathanna Viddyalaya in Haldummulla village, Thorawelikanda Vidyalaya in Ratnapura, Hevassa primary school, Yatipana Primary School, Ranepuragoda Primary school, Gulanawatte primary school in Kalutara district, Rathbalagama School, Aluthwewa Primary school, and Pitadeniya primary school in Monaragala district, Poddenikanda Maha Vidyalaya in Kegalle,Meemure Kaikawala Primary school in Kandy, Madawachchiya Maha vidyalaya and Kanthale Agbopura Maha Vidyalaya in Trincomalee District, Pahala Giribawa Maha Vidyalaya, Saliya Ashoka Navodya Vidyalaya, Pothanegama Vijaya Vidyalaya, Maradankadawala Vidyalaya and Thambuththegama primary school in Kurunegala District and Bogaswewa Vidyalaya in Vavuniya District.

Similarly, 12 more construction projects out of 13 projects assigned to the Army will begin very soon in close coordination with the Sri Lanka Engineers (SLE) Regiment with the Engineer Division General on the instructions of the Chief Field Engineer, Major General Nihal Amerasekara.
