Army Coordinates Supply of 1000 Spectacles, Dry Ration Packs & Book Stocks Shared among Needy People

The Army's initiative with the 'Nethsarana' Foundation in Australia enabled the supply of 1000 spectacles and 50 dry ration packets for 600 needy families in Vakarai Punani, Valachchenai, Kiran, Chenkalady, Iluppadichchenai and Thoppigala areas after arrangements to that effect were kept in place by 12 Sri Lanka National Guard troops of the 232 Brigade of the 23 Division of the Security Force HQ-East on 04 June 2022.

In addition, 10 bundles of reading and writing books of educational value were also donated to selected 10 needy schools in the area during the same project as a welfare measure following guidelines given by Brigadier Shiwantha Kulathunga, General Officer Commanding, 23 Division who attended the project as the Chief Guest. 140 Army personnel also received medical attention and spectacles during the same project as an appreciation for the Army's coordination. The project kicked off at the MOH office in Pulipanchikal.

232 Brigade troops organized the community project after alerting respective Grama Seva officials and civilians to this effect through the public address system in cooperation with the Police. The 'Nethsarana' Foundation in Australia sponsored the entire project in cooperation with the Army.

The Chairperson of the 'Nethsarana' Foundation in Australia, Mrs Laki Gunasinghe, together with the Civil Affairs Officers of the 23 Division and 232 Brigade, the Commanding Officer of 12 SLNG attended the charity event in addition to the GOC, 23 Division.
