Army Coordinates Distribution Ceremony of Gifts for Batticaloa and Ampara Children

‘Sleeping Children Around the World’ (SCAW) of Canada expanding its programme of helping the children further in the Eastern Province at the request of the Rotary Club of Kelaniya, distributed 5000 packs of school items and sleeping kits that can be used by children of 6-12 years of age among students of selected schools in the Batticaloa and Ampara District during July 06-11.

To the worth of Rs 19,250,000.00 gift packs consist of a shoe pair, T-shirt, trousers, school bags, mosquito nets, mattresses, pillows, mats, pillow cases, bed sheets, etc.

Distribution campaigns were conducted at 6 separate locations in the Batticaloa and Ampara districts and it continued for a few days.

On Monday (10), Major General Mahinda Mudalige, General Officer Commanding, 24 Division was present at the brief ceremony of distributing gift packs took place at Vellavali Maha Vidyalaya.

The programme was attended by Mrs Kaite Sandiford, team leader of the SCAW, Canada, Mr Sarath Gunewardena, team leader of the Rotary Club, Kelaniya together with several representatives of the SCAW and Kelaniya Rotary Club.

The series of those distributing events were coordinated by Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ -E) on the instruction of Major General Nandana Senadeera, Commander, Security Forces - East.
