Army Chief at SFHQ-MLT Awards Gifts to Civil Staffers & Cash Incentives to Boxing Achievers

Undertaking the first formal field visit to the Security Force Headquarters - Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT) on his way back from Jaffna, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Army arrived at the SFHQ-MLT on Saturday (27) in order to receive an update on the role and tasks of the SFHQ-MLT.

The visiting Commander of the Army in accordance with formalities was saluted in a drive pass soon after he arrived at the main entrance to the SFHQ-MLT. After a warm welcome, extended by Major General Sanjaya Wanasinghe, Commander, Security Forces - MLT along with all General Officers Commanding of under command Divisions, the Army Chief was invited to pose for a group photograph as a symbol of memory.

After a few minutes, the Commander as has been the practice during formal visits addressed the Officers and Other Ranks drawn from all Divisions, Brigades and Battalions where he underlined the importance of duty commitments and the need for constant enhancement of professional knowledge, ongoing Army’s Green Agriculture Drive and need to maintain highest standards of discipline of the organization. Subsequently, the Commander of the Army and the Commander, SF-MLT exchanged mementos as the day’s memories.

Later on, the Commander SF- MLT invited the Army Chief to attend a donation programme that has been organized by the SF HQ MLT where dry ration packs were distributed among civil staffers serving in the SF HQ – MLT. He also symbolically distributed packs of essential school items to the needy children of Army Tamil soldiers.

In addition, Jeganeshwaram Vijitha of Kilinochchi Central College, who won the Silver medal in the Indian Kickboxing competition 2022, and the Boxer, Ganesh Indika Devi of Puthukuduirrippu Vidyalaya, who won a Gold medal in the Pakistan Kickboxing competition 2022 were awarded a cash cheque to the value of Rs 50,000 in an attempt to encourage them for more future achievements. He shared a couple of views with them and congratulated both of them.

As the final segment of the day's itinerary, he planted a Mango sapling in the SFHQ- MLT premises as a token of memory of his visit. Before his departure, he left his signature in the SFHQ-MLT Visitors’ Book as well.

General Officers Commanding of 57, 59, 64, 66 and 68 Divisions, Commander FMA-MLT, Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks attended the event.
