Army Chief Presides the 8th Presidential Induction Ceremony of SLCOMM

The 8th Presidential Induction Ceremony of Sri Lanka College of Military Medicine (SLCOMM) got underway on Friday (26 Apr) at the Galadari Hotel, Colombo. Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, the Commander of the Army graced the ceremony as the chief guest.

At the outset, the Commander of the Army was welcomed by Major General P.A.C Fernando USP, the Colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps and SLCOMM members. Subsequently, the day’s chief guest was ushered to the main hall in ceremonial procession by the SLCOMM council members.

Afterwards, a short documentary video clip was displayed to the audience and the gathering recited the national anthem, followed by a two-minute silence in memory of fallen War Heroes.

Later on, the traditional oil lamp was lit and Surgeon Commodore (D) R.P.N.N Wijedoru USP welcomed the day’s invitees during her welcome speech. Afterwards, Professor Aloka Pathirana, the guest of honour of the day addressed the gathering.

Soon after, the Commander of the Army, addressing the gathering as the chief guest, appreciated the service of military medicine professionals, recalling their contributions in the past humanitarian operation and COVID -19.

Then, the ceremonial induction took place by presenting the medal to the newly-appointed President, Brigadier W.G.R.P Peiris and he addressed the gathering and presented his plans and vision in the upcoming year of SLCOMM.

Afterwards, Colonel W.H.K Wimalaratne, the Honorary Secretary delivered the vote of the thanks and a colourful cultural show entertained the audience. Soon after, the council members ushered the day’s chief guest back to the entrance in a ceremonial procession and group photograph culminated the day’s proceedings.

Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera RSP USP ndu psc, the Commander of the Navy, Major General S.P.A.I.M.B Samarakoon Hdmc Lsc, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army, Senior Tri-Services Officers, members of SLCOMM and Medical Officers took part in the ceremony.
