Army Chief Presents Mobility Aids to a War Hero

Sergeant R.A. Rajapaksha (Rtd) of the 10 Gajaba Regiment, a veteran War Hero who sustained injuries during the humanitarian operation, arrived at the office of the Commander of the Army on Thursday (07 March 2024), at the invitation of the Army Chief, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu.

During the meeting, the Commander of the Army presented Sergeant R.A. Rajapaksha (Rtd) with a donation of mobility aids, including a motivation wheelchair, elbow crutches, technologically sophisticated artificial limbs and stump socks. These items were manufactured at the Army's Prosthetics and Orthotics Workshop in Kurunegala, which is managed by the Directorate of Veteran Affairs and Rehabilitation.

This gesture by the Army Chief highlights his commitment to supporting and honouring veterans, especially those who sustained injuries while serving the nation. It also embodies his dedication to their wellbeing, akin to a fatherly figure.

Brigadier S.C. Ekanayake RSP, Director, Directorate of Veteran Affairs and Rehabilitation and Warrant Officer I W.A.K.P.K. Vithanage USP, Prosthetist and Orthotist of Sergeant R.A. Rajapaksha (Rtd) were also present during the ceremony.

Sergeant R.A. Rajapaksha (Rtd) was enlisted in the Army on 14 September 1993 and got injured during the Riviresa I operation on 01 December 1995. He retired from the Army on 16 February 2010 and currently resides at Kobeigane.
