Army Chief Invited to Join Distribution of School Accessories at Mirisawetiya

General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, and Mrs Sujeewa Nelson, President Army Seva Vanitha Unit while in Anuradhapura to attend religious programme at 'Sanda Hiru Seya' were invited Saturday to attend a donation of school accessories to needy students, organized by Mirisewetiya Nayake Thero, Ven Eethalawetunuwewe Gnanatilake Thero, Chancellor of the Rajarata University of Sri Lanka.

The EW Information Systems Limited (Ewis) at the request of Ven Eethalawetunuwewe Gnanatilake Thero sponsored the donation of those essentials to 1000 most deserving students, selected from remote areas in the district.

Each relief pack consisted of a school bag, school accessories (books, pens, pencils, pencil cases, mathematical instruments), dry ration packs and gift vouchers for selected low income group families.

In addition, the same sponsor provided lunch to all beneficiaries accompanying parents after the event.

Mr Sanjeewa Wickramanayake, Chairman EW Information Systems Limited (Ewis) and his spouse Mrs Rosane Wijenayake, and Ewis staff participated in the project and assisted its organizational part with the Incumbent at Mirisawetiya.

The organizers as the programme was on, invited both General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, and Mrs Sujeewa Nelson, President Army Seva Vanitha Unit to join on stage to give away those gift parcels.

Hon Maheepala Herath, Governor of the North Central Province, Hon. Shehan Semasinghe, State Minister of Samurdhi, Household Economy, Micro Finance, Self Employment and Business Development, Education Department officials, Principals, teachers and parents of students were present during the distribution project.
