Army Chief Inaugurates Illuminations & Decorations at Army HQ 'Vesak Zone'

Adding customary glamour and colour to the commemoration of the Vesak Week, the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, together with Major General D.G.S Senarath Yapa RWP RSP ndu, Deputy Chief of Staff, Major General W.A.S.S Wanasinghe RSP VSV USP ndu, Commandant of Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, Major General S.U.M.N Manage WWV RWP RSP psc, Director General General Staff and a gathering of Senior Officers switched on illuminations and inaugurated the Army Headquarters' Vesak Zone on Thursday (04) evening.

Upon arrival at the turn to the Central Environmental Authority office, Major General M.G.W.W.W.M.C.B Wickramasinghe RWP RSP ndu psc, Adjutant General warmly received the Commander of the Army and Mrs Janaki Liyanage, President of Army Seva Vanitha Unit before inviting the Army Chief to mark the inauguration by switching on lights in the Vesak Zone decorations that stretch up to the Army Headquarters.

The Army Vesak Zone is comprised of 14 rotating lanterns representing various Branches at the Army HQ and Regiments and more than 700 octagonal Vesak lanterns. In addition, the Army Seva Vanitha Unit organized an ice cream 'Dansala' for distribution among Vesak sight-seers.

The Commander of the Army visited the entire Vesak Zone and appreciated the commitment and impressive and creative works of the troops before he witnessed the display of devotional songs (Bhakthi Gee) in front of the Army HQ.

The Directorate of Army Band & Performing Arts staged the 'Bhakti Gee' display with two teams of performers on two floats which will tour in all 9 Vesak Zones in Colombo during the Vesak Week.

Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks and a large crowd of civilians witnessed the inauguration and visited the Army HQ Vesak zone.
