Army Chief Commends Pakistan Army Contribution to Regional Peace & Security

The Sri Lankan Army Chief, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, currently in Pakistan had the privilege of meeting the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) of Pakistan, General Asim Munir NI (M) at General Headquarters on Friday (20 October) before the visiting Commander of the Army was invited to the Saturday’s (21 October) Passing Out Parade as the Guest of Honour.

A Guard of Honour saluted the visiting Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage soon after he entered the General Headquarters where the Pakistan COAS office is situated before he was ushered to the COAS office.

During the cordial meeting between both Army Chiefs, matters of professional relevance and interest as well as possibilities for further enhancing bilateral defence ties were taken up for discussion.

The Commander of the Army was full of praise for the Pakistan Army for its professionalism and contribution at regional level for peace and security.

The Pakistan Army Chief highlighted friendly and historic ties and bonds of cooperation and understanding that Sri Lanka enjoys with Pakistan and its Armed Forces, particularly in the fields of defence and training of armed forces. They also touched on possibilities for further enhancement of ongoing exchange programmes as well as specific training modules.

The visiting Commander of the Sri Lanka Army also paid tribute to the memory of fallen War Heroes of the Pakistan Army by laying a floral wreath at the Yadgar-e-Shuhada monument in the General HQ before discussions commenced.
